UNDP and the UN

UNDP is part of the larger UN family in Cyprus. Each of the major UN entities including the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), the Office of the Special Advisor for the Secretary General (OSASG), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), plays a role that reflects the global nature of the entity.

The UNFICYP (Department of Peacekeeping Operations—DPKO) mission focuses on monitoring the ceasefire between the sides and maintaining the security of the buffer zone.

The OSASG (Department of Political Affairs—DPA) is charged with facilitating the Cypriot-led peace process.  UNDP has provided multi-faceted, critical support to the Cyprus peace process over the last five years.  This support has focused on both direct support to the official-level negotiations and indirect support to the environment around the process, including through supporting the technical committees, confidence building measures, and gender and civil society initiatives.  This support has helped maintain the momentum of the process and created an environment conducive to the development of relationships between key actors in both communities.
