Completion of emergency works on the mosque of Deneia/DenyaApr 29, 2013
The Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage is delighted to announce the completion of emergency works carried out on the mosque in Deneia/Denya.
On 25 April the committee members paid a visit to the mosque together with the contractor. Following the inspection of the work, the members marked the successful completion of the intervention.
This represents a great improvement for the village of Deneia/Denya, since the Mosque can now be visited, increasing the appreciation of Deneia/Denya’s heritage and adding to the touristic attractiveness of the village.
The mosque is one of eleven historical sites identified by the Technical Committee composed of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot experts for emergency treatment in order to prevent irreversible damage to the island's cultural heritage. The sites include churches, mosques and non-religious monuments and are part of an island-wide list of 40 monuments agreed by both leaders.
The works are funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme Partnership for the Future in collaboration with the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.
The Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage is one of seven committees established by the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides in 2008.
