Nicosia, 25/09/2014 – The Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage and the United Nations Development Programme Partnership for the Future (UNDP-PFF) are pleased to announce the commencement of works for the restoration of the Monastery of Apostolos Andreas.

Mobilization and preparatory works have been completed and the Church complex’s keys were handed over yesterday to the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage during a site visit conducted by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot representatives of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, UNDP-PFF and the contracting joint venture.

The restoration works to the Church complex are funded by the Church of Cyprus and the Evkaf Administration and shall be completed by 30 April 2016.

During the restoration period, the Church will be closed for both visits and worship. The Agiasma (Holy water) will remain accessible until 8 October 2014, and then will be closed to the public. A temporary Church has been established in the vicinity of the Monastery.

The Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage will continue to monitor the progress of the works by visiting the site in the near future.
