Women’s Film Days

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the United Nations Country Team in Cyprus has the pleasure of inviting you to the Opening Ceremony of the 2018/2019 Women’s Film Days Initiative.

The opening ceremony will take place on Monday 26 November 2018 at the Goethe-Institut Nicosia at 18:00hrs with the screening of "678" presented by the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Cyprus.

About the Initiative
Beginning 26 November 2018 and running through to 25 November 2019, the UN Country Team in Cyprus brings you the Women’s Film Days initiative with monthly screenings at the Nicosia Goethe Institut of films depicting stories of real women from around the world. This new initiative aims at creating regular opportunities for dialogue between activists, policy makers and the public on a wide range of gender issues through the medium of cinematography.

All movies will be screened in their original language with English subtitles. Entrance to all events is free.
The initiative is made possible thanks to the support of Embassies and Cultural Institutions in Cyprus. Each film will be introduced by a representative of the selecting organization.

Programme:
The programme of the initiative will be published quarterly on the Facebook Event Page.
For 2018 the programme is as follows:

Monday 26 November 18:00hrs - Opening night on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: 678, presented by the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Nicosia. Director: Mohamed Diab, 2010, 1hr 40min.

Monday 10 December 17:30hrs - On the occasion of Human Rights Day, and to mark the end of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence: Banaz: A Love Story, presented by Magda Zenon, Member of the Executive Board of the Cyprus Womens Lobby. Director: Deeyah Khan, 2012, 1hr 9min,. The film will be followed by an open discussion with representatives of civil society organisations from both communities to reflect on the impact and results of the 16 Days of Activism campaign in Cyprus.

Monday 17 December 17:30hrs - To mark International Migrants Day: A Thousand Girls Like Me (2018), presented by the International Organization for Migration. Director: Sahra Mani, 2018, 76min. The film will be followed by an open discussion.

The UN Country Team in Cyprus is pleased to support this year-long initiative as part of collective efforts to foster discussion about the importance of increasing women’s participation and promoting women’s voices.
